The koghi Mounts station is well known for
its past and particularly in botany.
Only 20 kilometers from Noumea, it's 500 meters up.
The present forest in the Koghis was exploited for its species till 1948. You still can
find "houp" trees cut down by forest-rangers at that time, that wood being
imputrescible.
Mr Max Leclerc, founder of the altitude center turned it into inn in 1954, with Dr
E.Caillard's help and several joint partners.
Along the years, the inn expanded slowly thanks to the growing number of visitors.
In 1985, a new turning-point for the inn was J.Broudissou's arrival. That nature lover
provides the paths with guide marks, makes a reference table for the species, locates the
spots allowing many persons to have access to the forest.
Nowadays, Serge Palermo has taken over, and new projects are already on the way. Let's bet
that, in a close future, this paradisiac site will become a hight place of the caledonian
eco-tourism.
